Switch on World’s largest Christmas tree, in Gubbio

Gubbio’s Christmas tree consists in 750 lights of various kinds and colors scattered along the slopes of Mount Ingino, which is located downstream of the medieval town of Gubbio, and is famous for being the world’s largest Christmas tree.
Made for the first time in 1981, in 1991 he entered in the Guinness Book of Records.
On December the 7 of every year, during a public event, the Tree is switched on in a ceremony that is chaired by personalities from institutions, culture, science and entertainment. In the several years the tree has been switched on, among others, by Giorgio Napolitano, Pope Benedict XVI, Don Luigi Ciotti, but also celebrities like Terrence Hill.
This year will be Pope Francis, at the official ceremony on December the 7,in square 40 Martiri in the city center of Gubbio, starting at 6 pm.
